NEET UG 2027: what we know, and how to prepare now
The official notice is not out yet. Here is what is confirmed from earlier cycles, what is still to be announced, and a month-by-month plan that works whichever way the details land.

Who can appear
Conditions in recent bulletins. Re-check the 2027 bulletin, especially anything marked “confirm”.
At least 17 years old on 31 December of the year of admission. Confirm in the bulletin whether any upper age limit applies; we did not find one stated in the sources we checked.
Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English. Students appearing in 2027 are eligible to apply, subject to the result.
In recent bulletins: 50% in the PCB subjects for the General category, 45% for PwD and 40% for SC, ST and OBC candidates. Confirm the exact wording in the 2027 bulletin.
No attempt limit was stated in the sources we checked. Confirm in the bulletin before relying on it.
What the paper covers
An indicative map by subject. The official syllabus is published by NMC and NTA with the bulletin; always study from that list.
Mechanics and properties of matter, heat and thermodynamics, waves and oscillations, electrostatics and current electricity, magnetism and EMI, optics, modern physics, semiconductors and units and measurement. Numerical, formula-based questions reward speed.
Physical (mole concept, equilibrium, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, kinetics), inorganic (periodic table, bonding, coordination compounds, p-, d- and f-block) and organic (named reactions, mechanisms, biomolecules). Inorganic is largely NCERT-based.
Botany and Zoology together carry half of the marks: diversity of life, cell and molecular biology, genetics and evolution, plant and human physiology, reproduction, ecology and biotechnology. The paper follows NCERT closely.
October 2026 to the exam, month by month
Built for an exam in early May 2027. Adjust the last two phases if NTA announces a different date.
- Read NCERT Biology cover to cover, with diagrams.
- Rebuild Class 11 Physics and Chemistry basics.
- Fix a daily routine: 6–8 focused hours plus school.
- Finish the whole syllabus once, chapter by chapter.
- Solve topic-wise questions after every chapter.
- Start an error log: topic, mistake, fix.
- Watch neet.nta.nic.in; keep documents ready for the form.
- Take a mock every week and review it fully.
- Second pass on Biology.
- Second pass on Chemistry and Physics.
- Solve previous-year papers under timed conditions.
- Rate your confidence on each answer to spot lucky guesses.
- Two to three full mocks a week at the exam time of day.
- Work the error log; revise only weak chapters.
- Practise the OMR or on-screen routine you expect.
- Short revision of formulas, reactions and diagrams.
- Sleep on schedule; no new topics.
- Check the admit card, centre and travel the day before.
How counselling works
Documents and habits to prepare now
Class 10 certificate (date of birth), Class 12 marksheet or school bonafide, recent photograph, signature, photo ID, and category or PwD certificate if applicable. The bulletin lists the exact formats and sizes.
Apply only on neet.nta.nic.in and follow counselling on mcc.nic.in and your state site. NTA does not ask for money through calls or messages.
Write every wrong answer with the reason: concept gap, careless slip or guess. Review it weekly; this is the quickest way to add marks.
Frequently asked
When is NEET UG 2027?
NTA has not announced it. Recent exams were held on the first Sunday of May, so early May 2027 is the planning assumption. The official date will be in the information bulletin on neet.nta.nic.in.
When will registration open?
Not announced. In recent cycles the notice and form came a few months before the exam, so February to March 2027 is a reasonable expectation. Keep your documents ready.
Will NEET 2027 be computer-based?
The 2026 exam was pen-and-paper. A change to computer-based testing has been reported, but it is not confirmed until NTA states it in the bulletin. Practise with both OMR-style and on-screen mocks.
Is there negative marking?
Yes, in the latest pattern: +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one. Unattempted questions score zero. Confirm in the 2027 bulletin.
Which books should I use?
NCERT first, especially for Biology and Inorganic Chemistry, then one problem book per subject and previous-year papers. Avoid collecting many books; finish a few.
Can I appear if I am in Class 12 now?
Yes. Students appearing in the Class 12 board exam in 2027 have been eligible to apply, subject to meeting the minimum marks after the board result. Check the bulletin.
