Past data, not a prediction: prepared 2 November 2026. Every chart on this page uses the NIRF 2025 data, the JoSAA 2026 round files and the DASA 2025 and 2026 closing ranks. Seats, applicants and rules change every year, so use these numbers to see the level of a college, not to promise a seat. What is the NIRF ranking, and why does it matter?

TLR 0.40RPC 0.20GO 0.20OI 0.10PR 0.10

NIRF, the National Institutional Ranking Framework, is the Ministry of Education’s yearly ranking of Indian institutions. Each institution that takes part submits its own data in one fixed format. NIRF scores it on five parameters and publishes a ranked list for each category. Architecture and Planning is one category: 40 institutions were ranked in 2025.

1Institutions submit dataIntake, students, faculty, spending, placement and research income, in the same format for everyone.
2NIRF scores five parametersTeaching and resources, research, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.
3Weights decide the rankFor Architecture and Planning the weights are 0.40, 0.20, 0.20, 0.10 and 0.10.

Why it matters

A common yardstickA central institute and a private university are measured on the same factors, so you compare like with like.
Mostly measured dataAbout 90 percent of the score comes from measured data. Perception, a survey of employers and academics, is only 10 percent.
It shows trade-offsA college can be strong on placement and weak on research, or the reverse. The five scores and 15 sub-scores show where.
Claims you can checkPlacement, intake and student numbers on these pages are what each institution told NIRF. Hold them against a brochure.

What it does not tell you

  • The data is reported by the institutions themselves.
  • Only 40 institutions were ranked, out of about 369 recognised by the Council of Architecture. An unranked college can still be a good one.
  • It does not measure studio teaching, design culture, internships or the city you will live in.
  • Research and spending marks favour larger, older institutions, and placement batches are small, so a year can swing a lot.
  • A rank is no substitute for Council of Architecture approval. Check that first.

How to use it

  • Use it to shortlist, then visit, meet students and see their work.
  • Look at the factor you care about, not only the overall rank: order the chart below by that factor.
  • Compare two or three colleges side by side on the compare tab.

What the ranking is made of

Each bar adds up to an institute’s NIRF score; the colours show the points each factor brought, after weighting. Order the colleges by a factor to see who is strongest on it.

Placement against median salary

Further right: more of the latest class placed. Higher: a higher median salary. Bigger dot: larger B.Arch intake.

Rank all 40 on any NIRF-sheet factor (intake, women, faculty, research income, placement…)

Ranks and the five scores are copied from the NIRF 2025 Architecture and Planning list. For this list the weights are 0.40, 0.20, 0.20, 0.10 and 0.10: we worked them out from the published scores, which they reproduce to two decimals. The NIRF engineering paper uses different weights (0.30, 0.30, 0.20, 0.10, 0.10), so do not read this list with those. Placement, median salary and intake come from the data sheet each institution submitted to NIRF. 40 institutions were ranked in 2025.
